Word Wednesday

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
-------------
Word Wednesday
November 25, 2015

Give Thanks!

 1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his love endures forever.
2 Let Israel say:
    “His love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say:
    “His love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say:
    “His love endures forever.”
5 When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
    he brought me into a spacious place.
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
    I look in triumph on my enemies.
8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in humans.

Psalm 118:1-8 (NIV)

PRAYER:
Lord,
Grant me a heart of gratitude today! May I reflect, not on what I don't have, but all that You have generously given. May my heart overflow with thanksgiving as I look at the greatest gift of all- YOU!

Word Wednesday

"By His Spirit"
Evelyn Fordham Goodman
November 18, 2015

"Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts".
Zechariah 4:6(b)

Tucked away amid numerous prophetic messages is a powerful word given by God to the prophet Zechariah for His discouraged people:

"Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts (Zechariah 4:6)".

Zerubbabel and his Jewish comrades were heading to Jerusalem to heroically rebuild their beloved Temple. Although this was God's plan for His people, their courageous efforts were being thwarted by a lack of resources, their own limited ability, and strong political opposition.

They wanted to accomplish this great task for God, but found themselves powerless to achieve it.

How in the world would the Temple get built?

In vision, Zechariah was shown the answer.
A golden lampstand with seven lamps stood receiving oil from two olive trees. The trees' oil was carried to a central bowl which was then carried through seven pipes to the lamps. It was like a Holy Ghost assembly line.

The lamps were fully furnished with oil in the absence of any human aid. There were no human hands to gather the oil, pour the oil, or even trim the lamps.

Similarly, the great work of God to rebuild the temple would not be accomplished through human effort or strength, but by God's Spirit!

Is there any area in your life where you know God's will, but are personally powerless to carry it out? Today, may you lean not on your own ability or resources, but trust in the Holy Spirit's power to bring it to pass.

PRAYER:
Lord,
You and I both know the areas of my life where the tasks seem absolutely overwhelming and impossible to accomplish. I know success in these areas would bring You SO MUCH glory, but I am powerless to achieve it. Lord, even now, I put my trust in You! Please overshadow me by Your Spirit, and bring it to pass!

“I will make you into a great nation,

I will make your name great,

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud
    but shows favor to the humble.”
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

“He Leadeth Me”
Evelyn Fordham Goodman
November 11, 2015

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Psalm 23:1-3 (NKJV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)

  • He leadeth me, O blessed thought!
  • O words with heav’nly comfort fraught!
  • Whate’er I do, where’er I be
  • Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

    • He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
    • By His own hand He leadeth me;
    • His faithful foll’wer I would be,
    • For by His hand He leadeth me.

  • Sometimes ’mid scenes of deepest gloom,
  • Sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
  • By waters still, o’er troubled sea,
  • Still ’tis His hand that leadeth me.

    • He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
    • By His own hand He leadeth me;
    • His faithful foll’wer I would be,
    • For by His hand He leadeth me.

  • Lord, I would place my hand in Thine,
  • Nor ever murmur nor repine;
  • Content, whatever lot I see,
  • Since ’tis my God that leadeth me.

    • He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
    • By His own hand He leadeth me;
    • His faithful foll’wer I would be,
    • For by His hand He leadeth me.

  • And when my task on earth is done,
  • When by Thy grace the vict’ry’s won,
  • E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
  • Since God through Jordan leadeth me.

    • He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
    • By His own hand He leadeth me;
    • His faithful foll’wer I would be,
    • For by His hand He leadeth me.

Joseph H. Gilmore, 1862

PRAYER:
Lord,
No matter what it looks or feels like today, I believe You are leading!  May I not see the events of my life as random thoughtless acts, but the result of careful Divine guidance..  May I rest safely in your arms knowing You are at work.

Word Wednesday

Word Wednesday
Good Morning AMN,
For today’s Word Wednesday, I’d like to share a devotional written by my brother, Pastor Furman “Puck” Fordham. This message was written to his Riverside church family in Nashville, TN.  I pray you are encouraged by this message
Blessings,
Evelyn
______________

Riverside Family,
I am on a high this morning!!!
Last night my baseball team, the Kansas City Royals, won the World Series!!! Just in case you didn't know, for a sports fan, it doesn't get much better than this! Victory is soooooo sweet - AND IT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN DEFEAT!!!
Take it from one who knows. I have had my full share of defeat. The last time my beloved city won a championship, I was 15 years old - and I just turned 45! Yes. Count 'em. That's 30 YEARS OF DEFEAT!!! So I'm an authority who can speak from experience. Victory may be hard, difficult, elusive and extremely rare; but victory CAN COME - and when it does, it is SO MUCH better than defeat!!!
As I was having worship this morning, I found myself thinking about our Christian experience. For many of us it has been YEARS since we've experienced victory over sin. We've had so much defeat, and usually against the same opponent, that in that
specific area of our lives we've come to expect it. Truth be told many of us have stopped fighting. We've conceded the battle and concluded that real, consistent, ultimate victory will never be ours.
But aren't you tired of spiritual defeat?! Aren't you tired of temptation whipping your tail and always gaining the upper hand?! Don't you want to taste victory?!
Well if you do, I have GOOD NEWS for you!
This past Sabbath Pastor Alicia reminded us that victory can be ours when we fight with the Word of God! God's Word is our weapon, and it has the power to defeat our enemy! Following the example of Jesus Christ, we were encouraged to commit God's promises to memory, and as we "hide God's Word in our heart," we won't sin against Him! Collect and claim your promises, and then fight your temptation in God's power rather than your own!
Wouldn't you like to be part of a winning team?! What if we were a church that was really experiencing victory over sin! Hey, GOD CAN DO THIS! We CAN have victory!!!
So let's get to work.
1. Collect your promises.
2. Commit them to memory.
3. Claim them as you battle against temptation.
Let's make 2 Peter‬ ‭1:3-4‬ our church-wide promise:
“As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Looking forward to victory!
FFF

Morning Manna Devotional

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Morning Manna Devotional

Morning Manna Devotional:
 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
